Did you know, America maintains over 40 million acres of lawn, using over 9 billion gallons of water daily, and taking away valuable habitat for keystone insects and other animal species?
The Lower Shore Land Trust's (LSLT) YARDS for CREATION program aims to work with faith communities to turn some of the lawn back into vibrant habitat for creation via meadows!
There are 400 native bee species in Maryland. 70% of our bees are ground nesting and threatened by habitat loss. By converting lawn to meadow habitat, you can do your part to help preserve these important species!
This program helps faith communities convert a portion of their property into native meadow habitat. It supports replacing mowed lawn with native plants that improve soil and water health, support pollinators, and reduce long-term maintenance over time. LSLT provides site assessment and technical guidance, and IPC helps congregations connect the project to stewardship and creation care values.
This program already has funding in place to install up to 10 acres of projects at no cost to congregations and will also provide $1,000 per acre for ongoing maintenance. If your congregation might be interested in learning more or exploring whether this could work on your property, reach out today for your site visit!
