Alex brings nearly 20 years of experience in aquatic ecosystems. He has a Master’s degree in Marine Science from UC Santa Barbara and a PhD in Biology from the University of Washington. His work has involved seagrass and oyster restoration projects in Washington state, and ecosystem research around the U.S., Caribbean, and Antarctica. He brings a blend of experience with applied ecology and environmental policy. He currently lives on a farm in Howard County where he is working to integrate watershed restoration practices with the family farm operation.
In addition to his extensive work in coastal environments, he has studied cultural knowledge and how people learn. He led place-based science outreach and education in the Salish Sea. Joining IPC is a natural union of his interests in building healthy ecosystems and communities that depend on them.
