What happens when faith communities, local organizations, and environmental experts come together around a shared vision for healthier neighborhoods and restored ecosystems? Real transformation begins.

IPC's Community-Based Organization Capacity Building Initiative (CBO-CBI) is a current program available for eligible congregations and works to close long-standing resource gaps and expand opportunities for historically under-engaged community-based groups. The goal is simple but powerful: build the capacity of local organizations so they can access watershed resilience and restoration funding, strengthen their impact, and bring meaningful environmental improvements to the communities they serve.

At its core, this initiative recognizes that many neighborhoods have been excluded from the resources needed to address environmental challenges. By offering technical assistance, relationship-building, and strategic guidance, CBO-CBI helps community organizations move from vision to implementation and equips them to pursue projects that improve stormwater management, climate resilience, restoration efforts, and neighborhood well-being.

As a trusted connector organization, Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake plays a key role in bringing together faith communities, grassroots leaders, and technical experts to create pathways toward sustainable change. Rooted in the belief that caring for creation is both a spiritual and civic responsibility, the organization helps communities navigate resources, partnerships, and opportunities that may otherwise feel out of reach.

This work is strengthened by collaboration with dedicated technical partners, including Gaiacene Services LLC, whose expertise in environmental planning and restoration has supported grant readiness and project development for community organizations. Their work in the CBO-CBI initiative has included site assessments, concept planning, and technical guidance to help projects become funding-ready and actionable.

Additional partners such as Carolyn Mitchell, PLA, and ShoreRivers further strengthen this ecosystem of support by contributing specialized expertise in landscape design, restoration planning, and watershed advocacy.

For congregations looking to deepen their environmental impact, this initiative represents more than funding support; it is an invitation to become part of a larger network committed to justice, resilience, and restoration.

If your community is exploring ways to improve green spaces, address environmental concerns, or build capacity for future projects, now is the time to start the conversation. Opportunities may be available for organizations ready to take the next step toward meaningful change.
