Maryland Presbyterian Church is located just north of the Baltimore beltway in a serene setting that features a nature trail, a labyrinth, and several rain gardens. Our “little church in the woods” has long been committed to the care of the planet as part of our core mission. To seal our commitment to caring for God's Creation, on Earth Day Sunday, 2008, members of the congregation signed a Covenant to Enjoy and Care for Earth Community. Each Earth Day, our faith community celebrates the beauty and wonder of our planet through poetry, song, and meditation.

The church’s ministry group focused on spiritual care for the planet, SAGE, ministers to the earth’s care in a variety of ways. This faith community has actively partnered with the Gunpowder Valley Conservancy to host seminars and activities for the community focused on native plant cultivation, storm water management, support for pollinators, and other topics of interest. SAGE maintains a colony of honeybees at the church as part of its mission to care for the environment. Members of SAGE also bear witness annually at Maryland General Assembly in support of environmental legislation. SAGE also leads the congregation in efforts to protect and restore the woodlands on the church’s campus by removing invasive plants on an ongoing basis and replacing them with native plants that are pollinator-friendly.
