Hyattsville Mennonite Church (HMC) is an inclusive Anabaptist community of faith, hope, and love, following Jesus in seeking equity for themselves, their communities, and the world.
HMC is working on various ways to be more environmentally aware and responsible by adding solar panels, recycling, and composting, as well as supporting the efforts of partner organizations.
Currently they are restoring a neglected, swampy area of their church property into a thriving native ecosystem by removing invasive plants and planting native plants and trees. And, with the installation of a wood chip pathway, HMC is slowly carving out an area that can be enjoyed by church members and neighbors, while also supporting plant, insect, and bird life.
In addition, a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation is supporting efforts to incorporate storm water management into the restoration work.
