Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
These familiar verses from the Bible’s book of Philippians were the reading for my Daily Devotionals Group last Wednesday. The lesson called on all those in my group to take a moment and reflect on the kinds of thoughts we allow to take control of our minds. God calls us to listen closely to his many messages of positivity, hope and encouragement and avoid allowing negative thoughts from the enemy to take control of our minds. We are also called on to always remember that God loves each and every one of us - a powerful statement when we take the time to ponder those words.
God Loves Us
I am always deeply moved by the enormity of this knowledge of God's immense love for us. I am often reminded how during one of the late poet, Maya Angelou’s, interviews, she retells a story about how she too was moved. She recalls,
Through God's Love We Can Do Anything
During this season of love and Lent, we are called to spend our time in meaningful prayer, fasting, giving, and other faithful actions. It is a time to think about what messages we want to offer others through what we do and say.
A number of you will be looking for meaningful things to do during Lent, and guidance on steps that you can take to strengthen your stewardship of the Earth. We have some helpful suggestions in the annual Lenten calendars that we have produced in collaboration with our partner, Interfaith Power and Light. The calendars provide actions that you can take each day during Lent. You can download them here.
Others are also taking steps to advocate for many of the bills that will benefit the environment during the current legislative sessions in your regions. Please join us by supporting these bills here, that are at the forefront of our efforts in the Maryland legislature.
Some of this work will be challenging, but my hope is that you will forge ahead in the confidence that through God’s love, and the strength that comes with it, we can accomplish anything.
