Founded in 1978, Kehila Chadasha is a progressive, independent and inclusive Jewish community of caring families, couples and individuals who meet in Montgomery County, MD to support one another in celebrating holidays and events; in pursuit of social justice, and Tikkun Olam, or repair of the earth. Kehila was certified as a Green Sanctuary by GreenFaith, a global non-profit based in New Jersey, dedicated to advocacy campaigns among faith groups on climate issues. Environmental values are core to Kehila Chadasha's mission, from its educational programs and religious services to its social, political, economic and environmental justice initiatives. Kehila is a member of the Montgomery County Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions, participates in statewide lobby nights in Annapolis to further social and environmental justice, holds lectures on environmental issues, partners with communities of faith and environmental groups, and regularly briefs members to raise awareness on various campaigns and opportunities for activism.
