Special One Water Partnership Tempestry & Sacred Garden Tour
Art, Science and Nature Combined
The "Tempestry" is a temperature bar graph presented as a knitted wall tapestry. Frederick area knitters have utilized Maryland temperature data to depict the global temperature increase from 1900-present.
Kittamaqundi Community Church invites you to a special One Water Partnership gathering to visit and view "Tempestry", a creative way to stimulate conversations about climate followed by a tour of their sacred garden. A natural science artist, an expert knitter, and a retired systems engineer were inspired by a 2018 photo of a tempestry* on display at Yale University. They come up with their own variation, illustrating Maryland’s rapidly changing climate using yarns. Using historical NOAA temperature data for Maryland from 1900 to the present. The data also ventured into two future temperature predictions from 2020-2060. Viewers can see future temperature possibilities based on residents’ choice to either continue "Business as Usual" or "Attempt to Mitigate Carbon".
After viewing the indoor art exhibit (masks required) we will tour the historic grounds with native plant garden, labyrinth, see the site of a proposed new stormwater treatment practice, then gathering for refreshments and fellowship to meet other faithful green leaders. Dress for the weather. Bring a friend.
