*Artist's Statement: Although not as widely celebrated as her work on pesticides, Ms. Carson wrote passionately about nurturing children’s sense of wonder as they experience the natural world.  Her essay, “The Sense of Wonder” was first published in July 1956 [and]... I agree with Ms. Carson that nurturing childhood connections with the natural world is a precursor to caring for it.
