We will have a night of thoughtful reflection on the pivotal role of Native Americans in environmental stewardship, featuring representatives from several native tribes of the Chesapeake watershed.
Guest Speakers:
Norris Howard Jr. Council Member Pocomoke Indian Nation will share some history of the Pocomoke’s spiritual connection and deep history of protecting the waters that lead to our beloved Chesapeake and their role in conservation efforts past and present.
Ryan Koons has served as Folklife Specialist for Maryland Traditions, the traditional arts program of the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC), since 2020. In this position, he directs the Folklife Apprenticeship and Heritage Award programs, curates media, administers the MSAC Land Acknowledgement Project, and has oversight of the Maryland Traditions Archives housed at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He received a doctorate in ethnomusicology from the University of California, Los Angeles, and is a Certified Archivist and member of several professional societies. He has taught, presented, and published on topics in archives, culture, history, and performance.
