Join Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake and our host Ebenezer AME Church for a special celebration of Juneteenth, the Summer Solstice, and the hard work of their Green Team!

  • Hear special presentations from Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, Green Team Leaders, and reflection Rev. Drummond of Ebenezer AME Church.

  • Stick around and join us for a short stroll (0.2 miles) down to the Galesville Heritage Museum where we will learn about the stories of African-American locals who were able to establish their roots in Galesville shortly after emancipation.

  • Concluding with a short walk (0.2 miles) down to the waterfront for final remarks and closing reflections.

We hope you will join us for this special event, and rejoice in our call for Environmental Justice for all!

What is Juneteenth?

This important holiday, recognized by millions world-wide, marks one of the most important moments in American History; the emancipation of African-American slaves. Want to learn more about the origins and meaning of Juneteenth, check out this IPC news article all about Juneteenth!

Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake, and our allies across the Bay, believe that Juneteenth celebrates the long walk to justice - similar to our work that strides towards environmental justice for all.  For many of our faith cultures, and diverse national identities, the Summer Solstice also holds a special place for self reflection. Unlike the Spring equinox, which symbolizes new beginnings, the Summer Solstice reminds us to turn inward and to seek the peace and balance for one's own personal growth.

Please join us as we turn inward, but OUTSIDE, and learn what it means to honor the legacy of Juneteenth.
