Clean air and water are human rights.

Join Interfaith Partners for the Chesapeake for a special film screening and Chesapeake Conversation as we explore toxins close to home that impact the quality of our environment and the health of our communities. We'll be learning about a Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) tank* in Wicomico County, Maryland with striking environmental and environmental justice implications. In this Chesapeake Conversation, we'll hear directly from Wicomico County resident Lynette Kenney whose quality of life has been degraded by the DAF tank, Wicomico Environmental Trust board member and lawyer Carol Dunahoo, who was involved in the effort to advocate for preventing other communities from being affected by DAF tanks.

This Chesapeake Conversation will begin with an optional screening of "Gut Soup", a 27-minute documentary detailing the impact of the Wicomico County DAF tank. The screening will begin promptly at 6:25 PM, before we move into the Chesapeake Conversation and discussion portion of this event at 7:00 PM. We highly recommend viewing this film ahead of the Chesapeake Conversation, either on your own using THIS LINK or by joining us for the group screening.

Meet our Speakers:

  • Lynette Kenney is a member of the community affected by the Wicomico DAF tank and led the charge in organizing to ensure no other communities in Wicomico County are affected by a DAF tank.

*What is a DAF tank?

DAF stands for "dissolved air flotation". A DAF tank is essentially wastewater treatment technology that removes suspended solids to clarify wastewater. In Wicomico County, the DAF tank holds processed products from the production of poultry and other animal waste for pet food. Air bubbles up through the wastewater, stripping out organic material and keeping it out of the clarified water. Organic material sits at the top of the tank, while water is below.

These webinars are designed to supplement the core Faithful Green Leaders Training, and everyone is welcome to participate.
