  • Earned a doctoral degree in American Studies from the University of Kansas in 1982. 
  • Taught American Studies courses at KU as a graduate student and taught a year at Ithaca College following his KU graduation. After that, he taught for nearly 40 years in the School of Theology and Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America. 
  • Began teaching a course on the intersection of religion and ecology issues at Catholic University over 35 years ago. 
  • Active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Silver Spring and heads their parish eco-ministry team.
  • Active member of the Archdiocese of Washington Care-4-Creation Committee and the Maryland Catholics for our Common Home group.
  • Certified “Master Composter” in Montgomery County. 
  • Married to his wife Judy, for 57 years. They have 3 grown daughters and 7 delightful grandchildren.
